Acts (2010)
Tuesday, January 29, 2013
by Robert Dean
Passage: Acts 13:13-38
Series: Acts (2010)
Duration: 1 hr 0 mins 49 secs
Paul is giving the gospel to Jews and God-fearing Gentiles in the local synagogue. Paul addresses them within the framework of their familiar as he anchors his message deeply within scripture, stressing their understanding of forgiveness of sin and justification. If it were only that easy to approach an unbeliever today, one who had such a deep knowledge of scripture. This is highly unlikely. Our approach must confront the realities of their position. The optimal starting point is for us to be profoundly familiar with the Word and to have a developed relationship with our audience. Paul will show us how to deal with a variety of circumstances so that we will have a pattern from which to launch our own approach and the assurance that rugged roadblocks aren’t necessarily terminal.

Passage: 1 Samuel
Series: 1st and 2nd Samuel (2015)
Duration: 1 hr 8 mins 13 secs
If you’ve always thought of the Bible as an obscure, pious book filled with stories of great Biblical heroes, think again. Listen to this lesson to learn about a country dominated by earthy, flawed, and sinful men, much as we have in our country today. Follow a dark period in Israel’s history and learn about three very different men, Samuel, Saul, and David. Learn about a murderous king influenced by demonism. See that as the book begins, God is working behind the scene, preparing to deliver Israel by bringing change. As you approach the study of this book, ask yourself if you’re like many in those days, trying to be a covert believer rather than living in open obedience to God’s Word.

What did David learn from his first attempt to bring the ark to Jerusalem? Listen to this lesson to understand that in order to please God things must be done God’s ways. Find out that after a man died after touching the ark, David took time to find out God’s precise directions which He had revealed. Hear the events surrounding the thrilling arrival of the ark in Jerusalem as it was honored as God’s dwelling place. This should make us ask ourselves whether we are submitting to the authority of God in our lives or whether we are trying to do things our way as we submit to our sin natures.

Dr. Dean mentioned a book entitled A Harmony of Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles during this Bible study.
